Video: Final beam of 6,500 pieces of steel installed at KU's new Booth

1 min read

The Kansas Athletic department hosted a "topping off" ceremony on Thursday afternoon to celebrate the placement of the final beam, among 6,500 pieces of steel, that have been erected as the frame of the new David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium.

Players, coaches, athletic department staff, construction workers and executives and donors were on hand Thursday afternoon for a brief ceremony to celebrate the milestone.

Officials said the construction of KU's new Gateway District was both on schedule and on budget and remains on pace for completion in time for the season-opening football game in August of 2025.

So far, 4,000 hours have been put into the project by hundreds of workers and another 3,000 will be logged in the months ahead.

Here's a quick look at the raising of the final beam, which was signed by the current Kansas football players, several members of the KU Athletic Department and others.
