The Kansas women's basketball team stayed red hot in thrilling fashion on Sunday, closing its game with Penn State on a 13-4 run to win 68-65 at Allen Fieldhouse.
The win was the program's sixth straight victory since suffering its lone loss of the season against Iowa in November, and it moved the Jayhawks to 10-1 overall this season and 7-0 so far at home.
KU sophomore S'Mya Nichols led the way with 26 points, including 13 points at the free throw line. Transfer Elle Evans added 13 points. The Jayhawks also played suffocating defense throughout the game, forcing season highs of 26 turnovers and 14 steals. Kansas also shot a season-high 87% (20-of-23) from the foul line.
Transfer Sania Copeland hit a clutch 3-pointer with 33 seconds to play to give the Jayhawks the lead late that led to victory.
KU will now jump into Big 12 Conference play with a home matchup against Baylor at 4 p.m. Saturday.
Baylor entered last week unranked in the Associated Press Top 25 but ranked 21st in the coaches poll. BU is 9-2 on the season, with losses at Oregon and home versus Indiana.
Baylor will close out its non-conference slate vs. Utah Tech on Wednesday in Waco before coming to Lawrence.
Here's a look back at some of Sunday's action vs. Penn State.
