Throughout each season, there are interesting notes and nuggets of information that come out of every game, win or lose.
Here’s a quick look at some of the more interesting and noteworthy facts and stats from KU's 32-28 road loss to Big 12 foe West Virginia on Saturday in Morgantown.
The loss dropped KU to 1-3 on the season. Next up, Kansas will play host to TCU at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo. Kickoff on Sept. 28 has not yet been announced.
Series History: WVU leads 11-2 all-time, including a 7-1 record in Morgantown.

Coin Toss: Kansas won the toss, deferred to the second half.
Weather: The game was delayed due to lightning in the area at 2:46 eastern time with 10:43 to play in the fourth quarter. Play was resumed at 4:44 p.m. following a 1 hour and 58-minute delay. This was the first weather delay during a Kansas Football game since Oct. 28, 2023, when the Jayhawks defeated No. 6 Oklahoma, 38-33, following a 58-minute weather delay.
Team Notes
• Kansas is now 607-682-58 all-time, including 18-24 in the Lance Leipold era.
• Kansas is 44-69-4 all-time in conference openers, including a 8-21 mark in the Big 12 Conference
• Kansas is 21-36-3 all-time when playing in a conference opener on the road
• The loss snaps a two-game win streak by the Jayhawks in Big 12 Conference openers.
Offensive Notes
• Senior RB Devin Neal led the Jayhawks with 110 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries. In the second quarter, Neal scored KU’s first points on an 11-yard rush, his third rushing touchdown of the season. Neal has now scored 36 rushing touchdowns in his career, which is second in school history behind June Henley’s record of 41. Neal also surpassed 100 rushing yards for the fourth consecutive game and seventh time in the past eight games. This is the first time that Neal has rushed for 100+ yards in four consecutive games and he is now alone in second place in school history with 16 100-yard rushing games.
• Redshirt-junior QB Jalon Daniels completed 15-of-25 passes for 184 yards and a touchdown. His 7-yard touchdown pass to Luke Grimm in the third quarter was his fourth of the season and 35th of his career, which matched David Jaynes (1971-83) for No. 4 in program history.
• Senior WR Luke Grimm hauled in 6 receptions for 75 yards and a touchdown. He surpassed the 2,000-yard mark for his career in the game and moved past former teammate Kwamie Lassiter II (2017-22) for fifth in career receptions with 150. Grimm is the seventh player in school history to record 2,000 career receiving yards, and the second player to reach the milestone in today’s game, joining Lawrence Arnold. Later in the game, Grimm added his first career rushing touchdown, carrying a reverse play 32 yards for a score with 5:39 to play in the game. He finished the game with three carries for 55 yards and a score.
• With his first reception of the day, senior WR Lawrence Arnold became the sixth player in program history to achieve 2,000 career receiving yards. Arnold finished the day with two catches for 46 yards.
• Redshirt-junior RB Daniel Hishaw Jr. scored his second rushing touchdown of the season on an 11-yard run with 4:30 to play in the third quarter. This was the 17th career rushing touchdown for Hishaw, who finished with 72 yards on 9 carries in the game.
Defensive Notes
• Senior CB Cobee Bryant recorded his first interception of the season to end WVU’s first drive of the second quarter. This is the 10th career interception for Bryant, who is now tied for No. 5 in program history with Wayne Ziegler (1983-86), LeRoy Irvin (1976-79) and Gary Adams (1970-72).
• Bryant’s counterpart senior CB Mello Dotson added an interception in the third quarter, it was his second of the season and ninth of his career. With the INT, Dotson is now tied for No. 9 in school history, matching the previous mark of Charles Gordon (2003-05) and John Koney (1951-52).
• Redshirt-junior DT DJ Withers recorded his first tackle for loss of the season, while finishing with two solo tackles in the game. Withers has now recorded 3.5 tackles for loss in his career.
• Senior DE Jereme Robinson continues to get after opposing quarterbacks, recording 1.0 sack and tackle for loss at WVU. Robinson now has 3.5 sacks and 4.5 tackles for loss for the season, and 12.0 sacks and 24.5 tackles for loss in his career.
• Redshirt-freshman DT Blake Herold made the most of his lone credited tackle on the day as he recorded his first career sack. Herold has recorded at least one tackle in each game this season, and has six total tackles.
• Kansas was led in tackles by a trio of safeties in Marvin Grant, OJ Burroughs and Devin Dye. Each player had six stops in the game, with Burroughs recording all six of his as solos, while Dye had five solo and one assist and Grant had four solo and two assists stops.
Special Teams Notes
• Sophomore P Damon Greaves punted five times, averaging 44.2 yards per attempt with a long of 56 yards. One of his four punts was downed inside the WVU 20-yard line.
